Exemplar CityTM

Exemplar City is a model that municipal governments can follow when faced with a wide variety of challenges such as responding to a local emergency or crisis, mitigating economic impacts, dealing with workforce skill or capacity issues, or facing overwhelming infrastructure demands such as those presented during a catastrophic weather event.

Blueprint for SafetyTM

In 2014, members of GEO Huntsville's GEOINT and Responder working group launched this disaster rapid response regional pilot program. Work is underway to discover, define and test the current data collection and technology integration methods. The aim is to demonstrate how existing and emerging technologies can enhance geospatial intelligence gathering through information sharing platforms to improve multi-jurisdictional rapid response.

TechVetTM

This is a 2-3 hour event which provides an opportunity for the working group members, participants and stakeholders of the Blueprint for Safety program to review 4-5 potential technologies, methods, and/or data sets for potential use in the pilot.  Individuals, industry members and companies have an opportunity to present and demonstrate their emerging technologies in front of the group.  Additional TechVet sessions are scheduled as needed.

Good Question!

What is Exemplar City?

Exemplar City is a model that municipal governments can follow when faced with a wide variety of challenges such as responding to a local emergency or crisis, mitigating economic impacts, dealing with workforce skill or capacity issues, or facing overwhelming infrastructure demands such as those presented during a catastrophic weather event.

Exemplar City, as a doctrine, is flexible, scalable and adaptable for use by stakeholders across the whole community and applicable for use in the geospatial, cyber security and energy sectors. The objective is to build safe, secure, and sustainable communities using an integrated location-enabled technology foundation.

As such, Exemplar City intends to test geospatial technology integration methods, create new best practices for governance of sharing geospatial information and build workflows for automated information dissemination through a series of pilot projects.

As a 501c3 non-profit organization, Exemplar City is committed to working in the best interest of all who seek to collaborate.

How Can I Get Involved?

Collaborate with Exemplar City

Are you a municipal government dealing with or facing these challenges?

Exemplar City is a collaborative forum for cities to freely share information, best practices, and use case examples.  These use case examples are flexible, scalable and adaptable enough for use by stakeholders across the whole community and applicable for use in the geospatial, cyber security and energy sectors. The objective is to build safe, secure, and more sustainable communities using an integrated location-enabled technology foundation.

In 2014, to initiate the Exemplar City model, members of GEO Huntsville's GEOINT and Responder working groups launched a rapid response for disaster regional pilot program known as "Blueprint for Safety".

Work is ongoing to discover, define, and test current data collection and technology integration methods surrounding disaster response and recovery. The working aims to demonstrate how existing and emerging technologies can enhance geospatial intelligence gathering through information sharing platforms to improve multi-juridictional rapid response and recovery.

Pilot programs such as "Blueprint for Safety" document the successes and lessons learned from each program. Each fully documented "use-case" is then available through the Exemplar City network for other municipalities to use, adopt and modify to fit their specific needs.

The idea is to bring the power of peer collaboration to the process through the Exemplar City forum, allowing communities to rapidly and effectively gain knowledge and insight from their peer cities.

Exemplar City members collaborate to test geospatial technology integration methods, create new best practices for governance of sharing geospatial information and build workflows for automated information dissemination.
