GEOHuntsville Update MAY2017: What we're thinking, doing and collaborating on!

May 2017

The Internet of Things and Geospatially Intelligent Cities

Cities are learning new ways of applying all types of sensors to better understand how to make them more safe, secure and sustainable.

The main story

GEOHuntsville will hold a demonstration day and exercise to evaluate and showcase our continued work with Internet of Things technologies. Technologies will be tasked and demonstrated in a real world scenario to evaluate their effectiveness to inform response and security activities when a facility is under siege. Historically, video cameras have done a great job in showing a limited view of an area but next generation sensors provide additional capabilities such as motion detection, tracking population concentration and movement, 360 degree fields of view etc. Linking fixed, ad hoc and mobile sensors while displaying location information provides the additional context needed to provide actionable information where and when it is most needed.
GEOHuntsville is embarking on this ambitious endeavor as the next step of our continued integration of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to understand how this technology assists our ability to prepare, respond, and recover from events impacting our communities.
Starting this month, GEOHuntsville will begin a series of planning meeting with our GEOINT, Responder and UAS working groups. If you are interested in participating, please join us as we prepare for this exciting upcoming exercise/demonstration.
